3D Printing Power Hour

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The Iron YardTechStart, and eSmart Recycling want to get the kids involved in Tampa Bay Startup Week and Hour of Code. Join Akira Mitchell, Program and Event Director at TechStart and Toni Warren, Campus Director at The Iron Yard to learn about 3D modeling.

This 1 hour class teaches SketchUp - an online free 3D modeling program. The students will learn how to create TechStart's logo with their name or whatever name they choose on it. They will be able to walk away with a 3D print, and their creation will be shipped to them if the print takes longer then the class. We will also discuss 3D printing marvels and possibilities, while better understanding what 3d printing is and why it's important. This free class is for kids aged 8-16, and adults do need to accompany the child during the class in case of a medical emergency.

If you sign up and later find out your child cannot attend, please let us know immediately, so that your RSVP can be changed and opened up for other students. There is a cap of 30 students per class.

Please read the FAQs below as they may answer your questions. For additional questions, please contact Akira Mitchell at Akira@TechStartTampaBay.org

Big thanks to Florida Blue for being the Youth Entrepreneurship track sponsor of Startup Week 2017!

FAQs:

What ages are the classes open to?

We welcome all kids ages 8-16.

What kind of computer will the students need?

Both Macs and PCs are welcome! Please bring a fully-charged laptop and a laptop charger to the class. Please make sure that the laptop is in good working shape so we don't spend the class trying to fix computers when we can be learning. If you don't have a computer, please let us know in the survey form when you RSVP. eSmart Recycling and TechStart have generously provided additional hardware for kids that don't have their own.

Any programs/software that need to be installed on the computer?

Download the free software SketchUp using this following link: http://www.sketchup.com/es/download/all#es

If you do not, we can use the web browser beta.

What is the cost of the class?

FREE. The Iron Yard & TechStart believe strongly that technology must be accessible at all ages, and kids classes are one way we inch toward making that belief a reality.

Do the students need to know how to touch-type?

No, excellent typing skills are not required.

What do students need to know before taking the class?

The course is for beginners. Imagination and love for computers are the only requirements for the class.

Thank you to our sponsors!
